Kalank’ has become quite the tongue stirrer in Pakistan, especially after Alia Bhatt revealed she drew inspiration for her role from Sanam Saeed’s Kashaf in ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ and how the film allegedly has been set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi. With all these tantalizing references and nods in favor of Pakistan, it’s no wonder we’re becoming a little more inclined to watching this particular Bollywood film.
‘Kalank’ is a pre-Independence film, produced by moguls Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala and houses a star-studded cast.

It was reported that Sri Devi was set to play Madhuri’s role as Bahaar Begum, however, after her death, Madhuri was roped in as a replacement. Sanjay Dutt admitted to being a bit nervous when shooting with Madhuri after almost a whopping decade, however, admitted that there was no awkwardness. If you recall, the two actors were reportedly said to be dating back in the ‘90s, however, neither confessed to the bustling rumors.
Sanjay also revealed to India Today that Yash Johar had talked about ‘Kalank’ back in 1993 during the shoot of film ‘Gumrah,’ and there was a special reason to him agreeing to do Karan’s brainchild.
The actor said that “‘Dharma Productions’ is like family” and said that it was meant to be when he found out his name was Balraj in the film – “my father’s real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect.” THAT’S WHY HE DID IT. BECAUSE OF HIS FATHER COMING FROM PAKISTAN!
