New Addition: Govt appoints Arif Usmani as NBP CEO


The government on Tuesday officially approved the appointment of Arif Usmani as CEO of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for a duration of three years.

Mr Usmani’s appointment as NBP CEO had been making the rounds since November last year. 

According to a media report, the federal cabinet was apprised on November 23rd that the President NBP is appointed by the federal government in consultation with the State Bank of Pakistan for a duration of three years.

And after a brief discussion, the cabinet decided to approve the name of Arif Usmani as the CEO and President of NBP.


Mr. Arif Usmani has been Head of Risk Management at Mashreqbank psc since November 20, 2017. Mr. Usmani served as Global Head of Wholesale Banking at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank PJSC since July 23, 2012. Mr. Usmani served as Managing Director and Citi Country Officer of Citibank N.A. Pakistan. He started his career with Citi Pakistan in 1981 as a Unit Head for the Corporate Banking Group and since then held a number of senior positions. He has 35 years of experience across several geographic markets and senior positions in various banking disciplines, including a number of critical Risk Management positions in the Asia Pacific region.
