A Joint Action Committee of journalists has announced a protest on November 8 after Dunya News Management did not honor their promise of reinstating terminated employees.
In a statement, Convener of JACJ, Azam Chaudhry regretted that although the officials had agreed to bring back staff who were laid off and the management categorically promised to reinstate them during a joint meeting on October 30, 2018.
Dunya group management also accepted the action committee’s request of not laying off further staff, and not to cut pays of employees drawing up to Rs 100,000 a month.
The statement said that even after the talks, still management is on cutting spree of the salaries.
The action committee has now decided for a protest on November 8, starting at 3:00 pm. According to plan, the protesters will march to the Dunya News offices from the Lahore Press Club. They will then stage a sit-in in front of the channel’s offices.
The committee has also announced similar protests outside the offices of other news organizations that have terminated employees or are still continuing to do so.
The journalists were to hold a protest on October 29 but called it off after an offer of talks by Dunya News management.
