Sacking of Employees: Unabated in Top News Channels is sending shivers of unease

Dunya News Television managers have told employees to be ready for 15 to 20 percent pay cuts when they receive their October salaries.

The management individually conveyed the decision Tuesday to staff members after earlier slashing pays of two leading presenters – Moeed Pirzada and Kamran Shahid – by almost 35 percent.

Pirzada, not happy with the drastic cut, opted to quit. He is currently serving out the notice period.

Insiders say that the 15 to 20 percent cuts will affect almost the entire reporting team, some staff working on the news desk, and NLEs.The staffers were told to accept the decision, or leave.
Dunya News already sacked two senior cameraman and IT Head. Both camerapersons – Nayar Abbas and Kashif Bajwa – are senior and competent individuals.

Abbas had already tendered his resignation and was serving out the notice period. He had about nine days left at the channel but was still asked to leave. He previously worked for Geo and Sky TV.

Bajwa, on the other hand, served at Samaa and BOL.

The management also terminated the chief of the IT Section who was with the channel since its launch.
Just days after sacking its top presenter Matiullah Jan, Waqt News Television on Tuesday fired nearly 30 staffers in Islamabad, among them three reporters.

The reporters terminated without being paid two-month outstanding salaries are Rehan Shaikh, Aimen Syed, and Imtiaz Chughtai.

Insiders tell that among those asked to leave were six to seven cameramen and two NLEs. Also laid off were employees on the teams of different program presenters.

The management, insiders say, has grounded one of the channel’s news-gathering vehicles.

The massive layoffs have left the Islamabad bureau wearing a gloomy look.
