Hamid Mir joins GNN as President, leaves Geo News, sources say


Pakistan’s  standout amongst the most senior grapple and Geo News’ best anchor Hamid Mir says farewell to Geo as he joins GNN (G News Network) as President.

Hamid Mir, born on 23 July 1966 is a known Pakistani journalist, news anchor and an author. Born in Lahore to a journalistic family of renowned Waris Mir, Mir initially worked as a journalist with Pakistani newspapers i.e. Jang, Ausaf, Pakistan etc. and currently hosts the political talk show Capital Talk on Geo News. He writes columns for Daily Jang as well as The News, both for national and international editions.

Mir interviewed Osama bin Laden after the September 11 attacks. During his career, Mir also interviewed various world leaders such as upcoming PM PM Pakistan Imran Khan, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, Colin Powell, Nelson Mandela and Shimon Peres. He has also interviewed celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Malala Yousafzai and Abdul Sattar Edhi.

He was granted with the common honor Hilal-I-Imtiaz for this work. In 2016, he was granted Free Press Award in the “Strongest Journalist Award” category. In 2017, he was granted the lifetime accomplishment grant by Zafarullah Khan Jamali for his work as a news anchor.
