I’m afraid DAWN sounds quite partisan in its editorial today, clearly lacks objectivity. Sounds as if written by a Sharif toady. One fails to understand how and why suddenly Raza Rabbani is cheekily promoted as the only one of 104 senators deserving to be the next chairman – and that too at the behest of Sharif who isn’t even thought worthy to be formally met by Zardari, despite many pleadings to the contrary, and for reasons we all know too well.

Given the general merit and democratic credentials of the 20 PPP senators vis a vis any other party including N League (with its Punjab centric and on top of that highly dubious choices) I believe PPP has got plenty of good choices that may adequately satisfy all stakeholders especially ones from the smaller federating units and FATA.

And btw if for argument sake RR is thought to be the ‘best’ joint choice of both Sharif and media then the ruling party should field Rabbani as their joint candidate regardless of the so-called consensus. The proof of the pudding after all is in the eating!
