Iconic composer-singer A.R. Rahman turns 51 today. He has mesmerised music lovers, and is credited with changing the sound of Indian music. Some of his close associates consider Rahman as ‘God’s special child’. He has given many beautiful tracks to Bollywood movies like Bombay, Roja, Dil Se, Taal, Saathiya, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar and many more. In the Indian music industry, he is completing 25 yeas, and he will be going to pay his respects to his homeland, Tamil Nadu. A concert will be held at YMCA grounds, Nandanam, Chennai on January 12, 6 pm onwards.
In 2009, Rahman was included on the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people. The UK-based world-music magazine Song Lines named him one of “Tomorrow’s World Music Icons” in August 2011.
He has been awarded four National awards, two academy awards, two Grammy awards, a BAFTA awards, a Golden globe, fifteen Filmfare Awards and sixteen Filmfare Awards south. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India.
