The first Muslim Mayor of UK, Sadiq Khan on his visit to South Asia enters Pakistan from India crossing Wagah boarder on foot which he called a symbolic gesture. Sadiq Khan replied to the reporter who asked if visiting Pakistan gives him the feeling of coming home? as “Home is south London, mate. But it’s good to be in Pakistan, it’s good to come from India, home of my parents and grandparents.”
Sadiq Khan is the first western politician of his generation who has visited India and Pakistan on the same trip despite being warned by the foreign office not to visit both places on same trip.
Sadiq Khan saying “Home is south London” gives the impression that he had understood the context of question in true sense otherwise calling Pakistan as his Home might have cost his reputation as Mayor of London. Though a lot of people supported his response on social media forums.
Sadiq Khan on his visit to India called on the British Government to make a formal retrospective apology for the brutal massacre of Jallianwala Bagh, carried out by the then British officials in India.
