The development in Lahore is exemplary when it is compared with other parts of the country. The latest inauguration of Bejing Underpass in Lahore, by CM Punjab, Shahbaz Shareef is making it more clearer.
Beijing Underpass (Previously known as Chubacha underpass) is the longest and deepest underpass in the country, has been completed in limited time of 125 days. It is stretched to 1.3 km, connecting Harbnspura with Mughalpura via Mall road. Total cost in completing this project mounted to be 3.6 Billion rupees.
Given the heavy traffic in the city this underpass will facilitate the commuters by reducing the flow of traffic as thousands of vehicles will cross the underpass daily. After the inauguration of Beijing underpass canal road has become signal free from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbnspura, and thus it will save valuable time of the commuters.
The name was changed in acknowledgement of China’s supportive role in the development of Pakistan and this name also commemorates Pak-China friendship. The project has been completed in the limited time of 125 days only. This underpass has 5.1 meters height which means that any kind of vehicle can pass through it.
Besides Lahore such developmental projects are awaited in other cities of the country which are also under the influence of rapidly growing urbanization.
