Upcoming Pakistani film ‘Verna’ has been reportedly banned by the central board of film censor, though CBFC chairman has said that, “fate of the film is yet to be decided.” It is the third featured film of Shoaib Mansoor after khuda k liye and Bol. Just like the previous two films ‘Verna’ has also been made on the lines of depicting the evil side of our society which we normally brush under the carpet. From the trailer of the film it can be deciphered that the film is about the courage and bravery of rape survivor who tries to fight back the oppressors who are supposed to be some politicians and others in high echelons of power.
It has been assumed that people in CBFC might have some political pressure due to which they are putting hurdles on the way of ‘Verna’ erstwhile film contains no obscene content which would have become a reason for its ban. And showing influential people abusing their power is no wonder in the land of pure and we all should have the guts to accept this bitter reality it, repent it and vow to make ourselves better and this how we can step into a better society.
The rumor of ban on ‘Verna’ (in which Mahira Khan, Haroon Shahid and Zarrar khan are playing the main roles) has already created outrage among people, particularly in women circles because the central idea of the film appears to be women empowerment by showing how our patriarchal society treats women and what ought to be done. Public rage can be easily witnessed on social media where people were castigating CBFC for its biases and prejudices.
However, official statement from Shoaib Mansoor solicits an “urgent relief of Verna.” As it is expected that today full board will be set to review the film on which whole team of ‘Verna’ is hopeful to listen a decision in their favor.
