Apple users are accustomed to enter their account details when the standard pop up “sign into iTunes store” appears on their screens, the fake login is almost identical to the original one and if popped up it will be difficult for most users to detect whether it’s fake or not and by entering your details you be giving away your credit card details too.
Apple iOS code researcher Felix Krause this week demonstrated just how simple it is to create a fake login form and steal personal details.
“Users are trained to just enter their Apple ID password whenever iOS prompts you to do so”
“Even users who know a lot about technology have a hard time detecting that those alerts are phishing attacks.” Stated Felix Klause
Mr Krause said the malicious login form took less than 30 lines of coding to create and can be easily replicated by the most basic software developers.
Can you tell which one is fake?
The one on the left is original.
The best way to set them apart is to avoid the pop up and simply enter your login details via settings.
Mr. Krause also said if you hit the home button and the login box closes the app, and with it the dialog, then it was likely a phishing attack.
