Khadija Chaudhry completed her O/A levels from SICAS, Lahore, she graduated from the Lahore School of Economics with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration (BBA), she explains that “Interview coaching by SJ is a company providing interview skills and confidence to individuals” furthermore she states “we are also offering career counseling services too”.
We asked Khadija the following questions:
What is interview coaching?
it is a series of stages that our clients go through, they start with learning crucial information such as how to build a resume, how to gain confidence, mastering how to present yourself in an interview and how to tackle questions thrown at you during interviews.
How did you come up with the idea of interview coaching?
well it’s a concept common in the West but relatively new in Pakistan. When I was working for a HR consultant in Lahore my job was to find a suitable job for registered candidates, when I would review there CVs I’d be incredibly impressed but when I would call them for a interview they would fail to do justice to their CVs and education, at one point we even had a candidate when asked to present his CV he recovered a folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to us, at this point I realized that there is an abundance of talent which needs to be polished in order to become more presentable.
How important is an interview for a successful job hunt?
it is crucial! It’s the first and last chance to prove yourself and your abilities, the whole point of interview coaching is to help you land the perfect job either for its monetary value or because this is what you want, it’s designed to help you meet your dreams.
Our parents do so much for our education, I once had a candidate that told me that his father took a loan for his education but he’s unable to find a job not because he doesn’t have the credentials but because he doesn’t have the necessary interview skills, so this coaching session is to help such candidates successfully fulfill their parents dreams.
What does a typical interview coaching sessions consist of? If I was to hire you what would I be opting for?
We offer seven one-on-one sessions 45 minutes each, a typical session consists of a mock interview, second session we work with the candidate to build and improve their CV, we work on areas the candidate believes need improvement as well as the areas we marked in the initial mock interview, the next session we work on the candidates dressing, dress to impress as they say we ensure that they are presentable, we teach them the basic dos and don’ts of an interview which includes a video tutorial, the 6th session comprises of a guest interviewer to judge their skills and whether they require further improvement and lastly we show them their recorded mock interview sessions to evaluate the improvement.
what kind of response has interview coaching received so far?
It’s been positive, we’re already recieving collaborations and hearing success stories from her clients, we have recently made a collaboration with Pakistan institute of management (PIMs) we will now be holding sessions at the institute as well as at SJ coaching, we’re glad that PIMs realized the importance of such coaching sessions this is a practical approach, most candidates are book read but fail in practicality it’s important for schools to prepare their students to enter the real world and not just excel in terms of grades.
PIMS will also be rewarding candidates with certificates upon completing this course.
We had an overwhelming experience at Bloomfield hall Gujrat, some of the students there didn’t even know the meaning of “internship” which was surprising but they had immense talent and the urge to learn, I think it’s essential in schools to offer such productive sessions.
What challenges do female leaders face within the business fraternity and how do you overcome these hurdles?
Being a female leader I have faced my fair share of struggles and I’m sure there is more to come. When people realize that im not just the face of SJ but the brains behind it they can become a little reluctant until they see my success, sometimes they even make absurd remarks that I’m receiving contracts due to a pretty face, this becomes extremely frustrating because we’re working hard at what we do but I don’t let it get to me because my work speaks for itself. My father is my constant support and he ensures that none of this negativity gets in the way of my work.
How do you define success?
anything which makes you content to me that is success, I feel a sense of satisfaction after my sessions, i feel like I’m actually playing a major role in molding someone’s future to me that is success, having a positive impact on ones life is my definition of success.
