Pakistan carried out it’s first successful bone marrow transplantation in public sector, Children’s Hospital Lahore
Doctors at Children’s Hospital have created history with this successful transplant both child and donor are doing well, a substantial amount of credit goes to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for ensuring that the operation is undertaken effectively in terms of time. Prof Rathore stated in a press conference following the successful operation: “personal interest of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has helped achieving the goal of carrying out bone marrow transplantation.”
Addressing the press conference it was further stated by the Dean Prof Masood Sadiq that the transplant had been performed on two minors aged two and four the narrow was donated by the sisters of the recipients.
Prof Masood Sadiq said “the Children’s Hospital has become a centre of excellence with the start of training program in bone marrow transplantation for the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. It was aimed at introducing this facility in other hospitals of Punjab such as Nishtar Hospital Multan and BVH Hospital Bahawalpur.”
The state-of-the-art bone marrow transplant center at Children’s Hospital cost of Rs 240 million and the grant was approved by Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter to congratulate the Children’s Hospital team on a successful bone marrow transplantation. He stated: “Congrats to the team of doctors, nurses & Dean of Children Hospital Lahore on the very first bone marrow transplantation in public hospital”
Furthermore CM Shehbaz tweeted: Team of Children Hospital will train other doctors & nurses as well so that this procedure can be performed in other hospitals of Punjab “…
He concluded his acknowledgment by stating the following: “Successful transplantation in Children hospital marks a giant step forward in our mission to provide quality health facilities 2 common ppl! Bone marrow procedures are expensive as one such transplantation costs millions of rupees… Now its available free of cost in Punjab … AH”
This is definitely a breakthrough conduct by Children’s Hospital with effort by Shehbaz Sharif
Dr Mewish Faizan informed that bone marrow transplantation could treat thalassemia, A-plastic anemia and cancer. Members of medical team also included Dr Saima Farhan, Dr Nasir Bukhari, Dr Arifa, Dr Mansoor Mazari, Dr Rukhsana and the nursing staff.
