Although Coke Studio season 10 gave us some incredible renditions, it hasn’t been upto mark, there were a few good songs here and there but as a whole the season was a disappointment. There were some songs that can be described as “saviour of the episode”.
After a complete down hill fall that would leave you wondering is this the end of Coke Studio? suddenly a song would be released to save the day, there was no consistency in the season.
Strings lacked experiments and diversity, they couldn’t bring the oomph that Rohail Hyatt used to bring to the studio, fusing together two absolutely distinct form of genres, folk musicians with contemporary rock artists such as Meesha Shafi and Arif Lohar what he created was something we still listen to today, evergreen music.
Remember Sanam Marvi and Symts koi labda? these are songs you can listen to right now and they will still seem like a flock of birds singing in your ears, soulful, experimental, diverse.
What happened to finding talent from the rural areas such as Akhtar Channai and Mithu Tahir. Strings preferred to stay in their comfort zone and worked with artists that were commercial and glamorous. There was too much repetition and not enough diversity.
In order to make the next season successful bring back the likes Rizwan Muazam, discover talent that is underrated, pair up singers of different genre and create a fusion.
