Rehman Azhar joins express news after a successful two years as a program host at Aaj TV, his show ‘Islamabad tonight with Rehman Azhar’ was aired on Aaj TV every Monday- Thursday at 10pm. He has previously worked at Express as a news anchor & special correspondent and now makes his way back to his previous employment place.
Azhar is a Law graduate from Fordham Law school, he has a string of experience under his belt which includes; News anchor at Express News and reporter at Geo News, he has also worked at DUNYA TV for four years as a host and producer of the program ‘Follow up’.
The show Azhar would be hosting was previously hosted by Gharida Farooqi, Farooqi was involved in a child labor torture case due to which her contract with Express was terminated before time, Punjab police in July recovered a young girl, allegedly employed as a house maid, from television anchor Gharida Farooqi’s home a call recording was leaked in which Farooqi had abused the parents of the young girl and refused to allow her to meet her parents.
Mediabites covered the story: http://mediabites.com.pk/2017/07/g-for-gharida-in-t-for-trouble-child-maid-tortured-ingharida-farooqis-house-footage-leaked/
now, Azhar would be replacing Farooqis time slot, Ghadira was a big name at express News.
She attracted large viewership, the 8pm Slot/ prime time slot which will now be assigned to Azhar. The question is; would Azhar be able to pull viewership? this is an important slot for Express news which Ghadeera had managed really well his show on Aaj did not pull the same ratings. Express is taking a huge risk by giving Azhar the make or break time slot, if Azhar manages to do well this would be a pivoting roll for his career, however, if he doesn’t this could affect his future as an anchor immensely.
