Samsung Electronics will be producing chips for Apples new iPhone next year as a tech giant in Korea lost orders to Taiwanese rival in 2013, according to reports Samsung has invested in the most advanced chip machinery a ultra violet lithography machine which produces seven nanometer processors, this will be exclusively for Iphone.
according to sources Kwon Oh-hyun one of Samsungs three CEOs played a major role in closing the pivoting deal for Samsung
“The CEO could persuade Apple’s top brass taking advantage of their close ties on OLED,” said an industry source.
Samsung used to manufacture Iphones chips until 2013 then TSMC became the sole maker for iPhone chips. TSMC were providing more energy efficient technology earlier than rivals. so far TSMC has been the monopoly but Samsung is set to join the market next year with this chip for IPhone.
TSMC, the world’s No. 1 foundry firm, took up a 50.6 percent market share in the global chip foundry sector with its revenue reaching US$28.8 million in 2016, followed by Global Foundry of the US with 9.6 percent, and Taiwan’s UMC with 8.1 percent, according to market research firm IHS. Samsung held a market share of 8.1 percent during the same year.
