At this level of international cricket, arguably the two most one-sided semi-finals ever played – at the expense of England and Bangladesh – are over.
Pakistan and India fans are once again high on euphoric national fervour.
This is not entirely unknown to them. As India are playing unbelievably well, and Pakistan are at their most unbelievably unpredictable – true to their respective ‘form’ one might say.
This seems to have worked fine for the two finalists. Until now! Because either form or unpredictability will desert one team on the 18th June as the other lifts the Champions Trophy 2017.
And if sporting blockbusters like an India-Pakistan final in front of hordes of desi expats on English soil, could only be decided on past history or present form, the excitingly dicey art of making predictions would bore you to death.
The proverbial 22 “flannelled fools” – to use an indigenous English phrase – who will step onto the field of play on Sunday, are quite capable of making fool of any history, geography or ideology.
That’s the beauty of cricket.
The colourful game isn’t partial to any known hue including the green or blue. The heart may have its reasons but the money is not for any set of 11 “fools”, especially when the head doesn’t always work as a crystal ball either.
That said, my soft corner will still be rooting for the “Eleven Fools in Green!”
