Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has complained to PEMRA after a few television channels ran news about the party chairman Imran Khan having got married a third time. Despite denials by PTI, the channels continued to air the news that made the party suspect it was a government ploy to divert attention from the Panama Leaks.
PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen said in a tweet: “Today’s smear campaign by some sections of media against IK seems like Govt’s hidden ploy to divert attention from#PanamaLeaks.”
In another tweet, he said: “Therefore the party has decided to go to PEMRA against few channels that did not stop the smear campaign inspire of clear denials from PTI.”
Imran Khan himself Tweeted: ‘Unethical of media to spread false news of my marriage based upon absolute lies . Had that happened in UK heads would have rolled Women pics shown whom I neither know nor ever met. Such disinformation is irresponsible & shows a collapse of moral & ethical standards’
Khan himself denied news reports and tweeted again: “Rumors” abt my marriage absolutely baseless. I have not gotten married. When I do I will announce & celebrate publicly.”
Khan’s two previous marriages to Jemima Goldsmith and Reham Khan both ended in divorce. He recently shared his secret of next marriage with some of his close associates including Shoaib Akhtar.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has referred to its council a complaint filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf against some television channels that aired news about Imran Khan’s third marriage.
A PTI delegation headed by Iftikhar Durrani, who heads the party’s Central Media Department met PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam (pictured), and formally handed over the complaint to him on behalf of PTI chief Imran Khan.
The PEMRA Council of Complaints is due to take up the complaint in its meeting in Islamabad scheduled for July 15.
Despite denials by PTI, the TV channels continued to air news on Tuesday about the marriage.
