Lahore Press Club elections were like war of Pani-pat, as elections were aborted on December 30 due to tense electoral process. Saleem Bukhari took the charge of Election Commissioner and elections were held peacefully on Sunday 17, 2016. As per results, Progressive Panel headed by Muhammad Shahbaz Mian has swept Lahore Press Club elections 2016 by defeating the rival Journalist Panel Headed by Arshad Ansari. The competition was stiff and both groups did their best to win the most prestigious slot of media in Lahore.
According to official results, Muhammad Shahbaz Mian was elected as President of the press club for year 2016 with 981 votes while his strong rival Ex-President Press Club Arshad Ansari remained second with 834 votes.
Progressive panel has also secured the posts of Vice President & Secretary General won by Abdul Majeed Sajid (928 votes) and Shadab Riaz (996 votes) respectively. Finance secretary post was won by Zaheer Ahmad Babar by securing 984 votes and Zahid Gogi made a history and took the maximum votes 1002 by winning the position of Joint Secretary.
All the Governing body members were also from the Progressive Panel. The elected members are: Rana Shehzad (608 votes), Imran Sheikh (601 votes), Mohsin Ali (581 votes), Azhar Maqbool (561 votes), Jawad Rizvi 559), Ismail Jhakar (545 votes), Furqan Ilahi (543 votes) and Sher Afzal Butt (513 Votes).
Some circles were calling these elections as BOL TV vs Geo/Jang/Express & finally won by BOL TV group!
